The Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office conducts postmortem examinations (autopsy), performs death investigations, and provides death investigator training and consultations.
The Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office responds to requests from authorized individuals for a death investigation as required by law, such as a possible death by suicide, homicide, or accident. (See Investigation as Required by Law)
Also, on a fee-for-services basis, the Midwest Medical Examiner’s
Office will respond to requests for an independent inquiry into a death in which family members want to know the cause. (See Independent Inquiry)
